WOMEN’S ADVOCATE, Part-time (Winchester, Ontario)

This challenging opportunity will appeal to a disciplined, responsible and adaptable Social Services Professional who is passionate about ending family violence in all forms and supporting women and children during a difficult time in their lives. This position will see you advocating on behalf of women, providing a safe temporary shelter, conducting needs assessments and interviews to make the most appropriate referrals for services from other community organizations. With an empathetic ear, you will actively listen and provide counselling and crisis intervention in person or over the telephone as the need arises. As a team member, you will collaborate effectively with your colleagues to develop approaches and plans to support the women and children as the needs present. As an effective communicator you will convey information to clients and peers either in person, in writing, over the telephone or by e-mail and participate as required in increasing the public’s understanding of violence against women and other related issues.

You have acquired a post secondary education in social services or a related field and have a minimum of 2 years experience in the VAW field. You are committed to and knowledgeable about community-based models of intervention and feminist principles. You are perceptive having a history of intervening successfully in crisis and conflict situations and of managing a crisis line. You are known as an effective communicator and as a leader with sound judgment and decision- making abilities. You take safety issues seriously and endeavour always to protect those around you as well as yourself.
